Mental Health

Supporting Mental Health Awareness

Our Ambassador programme at Tewkesbury Allrunners

England Athletics are supporting Mental Health Awareness.  The Mental Health Foundation is the UK’s leading mental health and learning disability charity providing information, carrying out research, campaigning and working to improve services for anyone affected by mental health problems, whatever their age and wherever they live.

Our England Athletics Mental Health Ambassador programme aims to establish a network of volunteer ambassadors in running clubs and groups across England to support people who are experiencing mental health problems to start running, get back into running, or continue running as well as to improve the mental well being of their existing members.

Within Tewkesbury Allrunners – our very own Helen Gould – one of our leaders, is one of these mental health ambassadors.  Our running group is fully committed to helping anyone within our running group affected by mental health problems.

The programme supports #runandtalk, an England Athletics campaign to improve mental health through running in England by:

  • getting people talking about mental health, sharing their experiences and removing stigma
  • raising awareness of mental health problems
  • supporting people experiencing mental health problems to start, return to and continue running
